Description

Project planning, proposal writing and public speaking are all core activities in the life of a researcher. Indeed, the ability to ensure that one¿s opinions and perspectives on issues are clearly presented and supported by evidence are key skills in any profession. On their own, good ideas are not enough. As researchers, we need to know how to turn our ideas into achievable projects, gain support for them, and communicate them to others. This module is dedicated to enhancing the skills that are central to the practice of planning and communicating research ideas in the social sciences. Students will work to plan a small scale (dissertation sized) empirical study in an area of their choosing, before orally presenting their proposal to academics and peers at a student conference.
